He just wanted to get to know the obstinate woman...
"I'm a pretty good listener, Jess. And anything you tell me would be strictly confidential. You have my word."
She looked up at him with those big blue eyes, and the temptation to pull her into his arms nearly overpowered him. Their earlier kiss had been cut short, and he hadn't been able to think about much since.
"There's nothing to tell," she insisted. "I got married too young, and he turned out to be a total loser. End of story."
Having hoped she would open up to him, Garrett felt a surprising sense of disappointment. "Fine. If that's the way you want it, I won't push." He swiped his fingers through his hair. "Your business is your business."
"Finally," she said with a playful roll of her eyes. "Listen, it's been great fun and all, but I have to get up early for work. So, if you wouldn't mind..." She gestured toward the door.
Garrett shook his head and chuckled. "Woman, you are hell on a man's ego."
"Somehow, I think you'll live."
"Well?" He stood up and motioned her forward. "Aren't you going to send me off with a good night kiss?"
She let out a delicate snort. "You act as if we're dating or something. Hell, we just got past our mutual dislike of each other."
"Is 'mutual dislike' what you were feeling when you wrapped your arms and legs around me in the kitchen?" he asked, annoyed by her casual attitude. "Because it's definitely not what I was feeling."
"I see your ego isn't as delicate as you thought it was."
Garrett reached down, grasped both her hands, and drew her to her feet. He gazed down at her, holding her tight against him with one hand, while the other worked the ponytail holder from her hair. Gently, he finger-combed the silky blonde tendrils away from her face while gazing down at her lips, fighting the urge to kiss her breathless. "The hell with it," he whispered, losing the battle, and took her mouth with fierce possession.
Jessica melted into him without hesitation. She wrapped her arms around his neck and slanted her mouth beneath his, meeting the thrust of his tongue with a sexy little moan.
Garrett had to use every bit of his self-control to keep from stripping her naked and taking her right there on the floor. He wanted to taste every inch of her, make her burn for him, hunger for him. And she could deny it 'til the cows came home, but the way she responded to him was all the proof he needed—Jessica wanted him just as much.

***Spoiler Alert**** I read the first book in the series and liked it. So I figured this book would be good as well. It started out good and I was really enjoying it. Until Jessica's ex-husband calls and asked to be picked up from the hospital. In the beginning Jessica gets a call from her mom saying her ex-husband has been released from jail. Both Jessica and her mom are upset by this news and Jessica promises to call her mom or get help from the sexy cop next door if the ex shows up. So when Jessica gets the call from the hospital that her husband needs a ride home she goes at gets him!? What the...? I had to stop reading at that point. My thought was that nothing was going to happen after that that was not going to piss me off.Product details

I knew I was going to like this book.... I still felt like slapping Garrett upside the head, he was just plain old mean and rude. I have to say he was a very supportive brother and became a good friend to Jessica. I have to agree from the previous book with his brother that told him he just need to get SOME.... lol.,.jk I felt that Garrett's story line was not as realistic with the character of Jessica. But the way it was written it worked to make the story interesting and not boring at all. Jessica's allowing her Ex to live with her, kinda threw me because it wasn't clear as to why she really allowed him nor his brother to live with her after his accident. Little confused on that. But overall this was and very good book, which will go into my collection for future reading again. I just liked it. Garrett is watching life unfold around him, with no one to call his own nor share lifes passion with until Jessica. Jessica finally finds a man that will love her and protect her, and the new bundle on the way makes life sweet.
For those that are particular about the verbiage used, there are some sexually explicit scenes and graphic language used. Little down and dirty drama ,with a little violence.
I enjoyed the characters from the previous book being used, which allowed us to get a glimpse of their lives unfolding at the same time. Jacks character seems to be another story in the waiting????? and Mr. louie needs a mate.
Worst book EVER. I kind of liked the first one so I ordered this without looking at reviews. Should have looked at them first. This book has the stupidest heroine in Jessica that I have EVER read and I have read a lot. I cant finish it bc I want to throw my kindle against the wall. No wonder this author has gone to self publishing. Its obvious her publisher started reading this drivel and said...hmmmm...NOPE. SPOILER...Jessica gets involved with her neighbor with an anger management problem...her ex husband whose child died in an accident is released early from prison (what was he charged with? neglect?) and then she gets a call from the hospital saying he needed to be picked up...and she does it, Wait, What? Then to top it all off his brother shows up at her house to 'take care of wade' while he is recuperating and her response to him is 'would it matter if I minded?' OMG this character is Too Stupid to LIVE. there is a scene where an inmate is about to be released from prison and the other person in the cell who doesn't know him from Jack just starts spilling his guts. Not gonna happen. That will get u dead in a prison cell. Gun residue is admissible in a trial as evidence and any lawyer who doesn't have this test run can be removed for ineffective counsel. Of course, gun residue can be transferred by simply holding a gun that has been recently fired. A person who is convicted of first degree murder does not spend 7 yrs in prison, they spend life. There are just so many lazy mistakes in this book its just ridiculous. She goes from willingly picking up her ex who is responsible for the death of their 2 yr old and now she is essentially a prisoner in her own home...oh...except she is allowed to leave to go to work. Did no one reading this have the nerve to tell the author...uh u r making this person TSTL?
I agree with the other reviewer who said that the first half of the book was shaping up to be really good until the h became TSTL. I'm not a fan of books where the h does ridiculously stupid stuff and doesn't tell the H, who in this case was more than able to protect/help her. She had a really stupid secret and basically it just meant that her relationship with the h went only skin deep since she feared telling him the truth.
This is the second book in the Jamison series. We'd been introduced to the H as he was the over protective brother of the h in that book. He helped his sister with her young son. In this book he starts off not getting on with his neighbour because of her cat. Over time they get to know each other and then start having a relationship. Shortly after that her ex-husband, who is also an ex-con comes back into her life and causes mayhem. From this point on in the book, the story went to pieces for me. Pity.
