With very few stumbles, Mims creates believable suspense by constantly shifting suspicion from one character to another, until everyone in sight looks guilty. In fact, almost everyone is guilty of something, though perhaps not what readers might suspect at first glance. Agatha Christie, eat your heart out: Double Crossing is Murder on the Orient Express with western-genre sensibilities and without Hercule Poirot's pompous interference.
Read this book. The history lesson is enjoyable, the characters are mesmerizing, and the twists and turns in the plot are more than worth the price of a Pullman ticket. The sequel, Double or Nothing, bowed March 13 promising to plant Lily in the middle of another life-or-death caper.

I'm enjoying my read - I'm really impressed with the amount of historical accuracy in this book! As a fan of historical fiction, it's easy for me to get turned off when an author doesn't do their homework, but Mims makes it seem as if she's been there, with great detail in every scene. I recommend this to anyone who likes a good historical story.
I picked the book because I liked the cover. Little did I know it was an award winner.
Lily is a strong female who is determined to find out the truth behind her father's death. Author Meg Mims seldom resorts to the predictable when unrolling her tale. A great delight for western fans.
This was a enjoyable read, I really liked it. The Heroine was born in a period of time where women were property, but she does not accept this custom very well. It was full of wonderful descriptions and makes me want to travel by train across the country. The author did a wonderful job of capturing the time period and the twisted relationships between all the characters was just plain fun. The surprise at the end was worth the wait. Mrs. Mims has done a wonderful job.
Double Crossing was a wonderful piece of historical fiction.
This book has it all. It has murder, mystery, action, and even a little romance all mixed together. The characters are really likable. Lily and Ace are great together. This book was so great that I really don't want to go into detail for this review because I don't want to ruin it for you.
Give this wonderful book a try. You will not be sorry that you did. It is a very fast-paced story that will definitely keep your attention.
This historical mystery/suspense jumps into the action on page 1, and Mims' brisk writing carries you along like a speeding locomotive until the very last page. The descriptions are rich (especially the food!), and plant you right where the story is happening.
Lily Granville is a strong protagonist with pluck, up against a missionary with designs on her inheritance, and a greasy lawyer trying to do her in. All the characters are colorful, including Ace Diamond, the strong male lead.
Mims gets the details of the period right, from dress to train travel and geography. In this exciting setting from America's past, she ratchets up the suspense and keeps you guessing until the very end. Well done and recommended.

There's a sequel, but this is fine with a Happily For Now
I did not know there was a sequel called *Double or Nothing*
Wow! What a heroine! No simpering miss here! She's powerful and is a Christian, godly woman. Not overbearing or preachy, just quietly secure in her beliefs. There is a Bible verse at the beginning of very chapter. The ending is satisfying enough, but why settle for a HFN when you can have a HEA?
Lily's father dies by bad man's hand that starts a journey cross country to meet up with her uncle. Her Aunt sweeps in for the funeral and lily overhears her planning to send her to a sanitarium as she is so depressed about her father. A title for her fathers and uncles mine is missing and everyone is looking for it. Lily jumps on a train to see her uncle in California where the mine is and her aunt and uncle end up on the same train. You need to read this book to learn of all the things that are put in Lily's way to meet her Uncle. This story kept me up late in the night to reach the conclusion of this tale
